A Really Moving Site

A Really Moving Site

There seems to be a particular form and function to which corporate websites adhere to. When Affinity asked us not to look at those but rather focus on fashion / design and architectural online examples suddenly round the studio all that could be heard was... "I haven't got much work on I could take that on"... "yeah me too"... "I haven't designed a website in ages." And here, we are proud to say, is the resulting site: www.affinitypw.com

Deutsche Bank - Passion to Perform

Deutsche Bank - Passion to Perform

The reputation of Deutsche Bank within the world of art and design is second to none. For decades, Deutsche Bank has promoted promising young artists and, at the same time, has given a broad audience access to experience art and music. In this way, they encourage people to try something new and broaden their horizons. With this in mind we could not be more delighted to be working with this incredible institution. Deutsche Bank are launching a Channel Islands initiative to encourage and promote young local artistic talent in Jersey and Guernsey. What you see here is the promotional poster/flyer which is going out to schools island-wide. For more information on this amazing project visit: www.dbcommunityartworks.com

Potting Shed Heroes: Robert Brownjohn

Potting Shed Heroes: Robert Brownjohn

Although he died at 44 and left a relatively small portfolio, he has acquired cult status for his remarkable ideas. A protege of Bauhaus legend Laszlo Maholy-Nagy, he was educated at The Institute of Design in Chicago and swiftly carved himself a reputation as one of the most talented, if not the easiest creatives in New York.

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland

We were delighted to be asked to do both the Alderney and Guernsey Christmas stamps this year. The set for Guernsey displayed the work of seven local amateur photographers who had been chosen from a highly successful competition held by the post office earlier in the year,  judged by a panel of experts (one of which was The Potting Shed's Creative Director Al Mitchell). The Alderney set depicts a magical winter wonderland scene comprising several well known Alderney landmarks. Both sets have been extremely well received and we look forward to working with the Post Office in 2012.

Printing Affinity

Printing Affinity

The remit of Affinity's print collateral has arrived and it has been well worth the wait. 3 colours on GF Smith (www.gfsmith.com) White Frost and it looks spot on. Dayfold once again hitting the mark perfectly. Investment corners, correspondence cards and report covers complete a beautiful and consistent suite of printed brand items. God, we love the smell of great print in the morning ... smells like ... victory! (apologies for the pointless Apocolypse Now reference)

That Sam I am

That Sam I am

We first came across the immensely talented Sam Falla through ex-Potting Shedder, friend, teacher and all round super-mum Charlotte Barnes. Sam was (and still is) a student on one of Charlottes design courses at the College of F.E. Charl told us about a diamond in the rough on her course and would we be able to take him on for a placement in the studio.

I believe in miracles

I believe in miracles

Ok, pardon the tenuous and somewhat irrelevant, title link to the band Hot Chocolate but I'm tired and just couldn't think of anything better. Mr Ben Le Prevost, the chocolate magician (by that I mean good with chocolate not that he is a tiny wizard made of chocolate) has done it again and created another truly sumptuous product, this time it's hot chocolate and Ben got us to sort out his packaging, we thought you might like a look.

Smell what the Rock is cooking

Smell what the Rock is cooking

The Rock Garden restaurant is a shiny new restaurant/bar owned and created by the Vista Hotel group and situated to the rear of The Fermain Valley Hotel. The Potting Shed were approached in the initial stages of the development to create their new brand. The vivid green and contemporary setting juxtaposing the natural materials prevalent in the venue. Created using a 5 x 5 grid square grid which can in turn be used as a touch-point icon in the restaurant and a structure to create further icons, wayfinding systems and lettering. The straight lines of the structure making it easy to etch into stone signage and reflecting the digital nature of some of the high tech interactive projections that are at the centre of the restaurant. A progressive identity which we hope will hold them in good stead.

Potting Shed Heroes: Paul Rand

Potting Shed Heroes: Paul Rand

If you were to sit down and write a list of what you consider to be the ten most powerful brands of all time the chance is that at least 3 of the will have been designed by Paul Rand. Born Pertetz Rosenbaum in New York, 1914, he decided to camoflauge his overtly Jewish name by changing it to Paul Rand. He chose this name not for personal reasons but for aesthitic ones. He figured that 'Paul Rand,' four letters here, four letters there, would create a nice symbol, design always came first for Rand.
